Habs rare NHL road underdogs

The San Jose Sharks could be sunk on Wednesday night without a win against Dallas, while the Montreal Canadiens are also desperate for a win when they square off with Philadelphia in Game 4 of their playoff series.

Surprisingly, the Canadiens are +115 road underdogs for Game 4 in Philly. The Flyers can take a 3-1 series lead on Wednesday night if they can get past Montreal for the third game in a row.

Philly moved ahead 2-1 in the series on Monday night with a 3-2 victory despite being outshot 34-14 by the Canadiens.

Philadelphia took a 3-0 lead in Game 3 with three goals in the second period and then rode on the strong play of netminder Martin Biron to the win. Scottie Upshall, Mike Richards and R.J. Umberger all scored for the Flyers, with Richards' goal coming shorthanded.

Montreal got goals from Tomas Plekanec and Saku Koivu, but they couldn't solve Biron to net the equalizer in the third period. Biron finished the night with 32 big saves, while Montreal could face a goaltending controversy in Game 4.

Rookie Carey Price may finally be beginning to crack after allowing three goals on only 12 shots on Monday night. Jaroslav Halak replaced Price in the third period and could get the start ahead of Price if Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau decides to leave Price on the bench.

The Sharks now trail Dallas 3-0 and are in a must-win situation on Wednesday night. The Stars could sweep the series after winning Game 3 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night. All of Dallas' scoring came from the blueline in the win, as Sergei Zubov netted his first of the postseason and Mattias Norstrom scored the game-winner in OT.

Patrick Marleau scored the Sharks' lone goal shorthanded late in the first period, but Dallas goaltender Marty Turco shut the door the rest of the way with 19 saves. It was a much busier night for Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov, who had 27 saves in the loss. There was no overnight line for the game, watch for the opening moneyline to favor the Stars.

Looking ahead to Thursday night the Penguins could send the Rangers packing in Game 4, as Pittsburgh holds a 3-0 series lead after taking Game 3 by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday night.

The Colorado Avalanche are also on the brink, as they suffered a 4-3 loss on Tuesday night to fall behind 3-0 in their series against the Detroit Red Wings.
