Baseball bettors often look at teams with new managers as a handicapping angle. But what happens when two teams that recently sacked their coaches clash?

Two of the three MLB teams with new managers are going head-to-head Monday night. The 26-49 Seattle Mariners visit the 37-37 New York Mets in interleague action; Seattle fired John McLaren on June 19, two days after the Mets gave Willie Randolph his walking papers.

The game opened with the Mets as -155 moneyline favourites, but it was quickly bet up to -170 at . The total with two tremendous pitchers on the hill remains at 7.5.

The Mets have been raked over the coals in the New York papers, but what's happening in Seattle makes the Big Apple look normal. McLaren pointed at a fractious clubhouse upon his departure, and two of his former coaches (still employed by the club, for now) supported McLaren by slinging mud at the ballplayers in the Tacoma News-Tribune.

"You've got players in that clubhouse who should be team leaders - guys like Richie Sexson, Adrian Beltre, Erik Bedard, even Ichiro - who care only about themselves," groused one of the unnamed coaches.

Pitcher Felix Hernandez (6-5, 2.87 ERA) was among those praised by the disgruntled coaches for his work ethic. He'll start Monday's game for the Mariners, who have given their ace just 3.53 runs per game of support. The UNDER is a solid MLB betting trend at 12-3 in his 15 starts.

Johan Santana (7-5, 3.04 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets. New York is 9-6 in his 15 starts, with the OVER cashing in at 8-5-2 on the strength of 4.88 runs per game of support. But the Mariners-UNDER parlay has betting value with Hernandez allowing zero runs in three of his last four starts.
