Weekend betting profits

advertisement

It was likely a profitable weekend for most bettors, as the favorites cleaned up in baseball, basketball, and hockey. The exception, of course, was the Atlanta Hawks, who came out of nowhere to upset the Celtics in Game 3 on Saturday night. If anyone saw that coming and took the Hawks on the moneyline, feel free to send me a few picks.

The domination of the favorites didn't mean a big money weekend for yours truly though. In my Friday night hockey picks I went one-for-two, missing on the Rangers and cashing in on Dallas' Game 1 victory.

Saturday came and went without much profit either after I hit two-of-three in my baseball selections. Picking Tampa Bay as the underdog was a nice move thanks to a gem by Edwin Jackson, while Erik Bedard put together a quality start for Seattle. But betting against Adam Wainwright was a mistake, and Houston was a loser.

Sunday was a day of losing, with only one of my published picks making me any cash, as the Brandon Webb/Jake Peavy battle of aces played as an UNDER even on the low 6.5 total.

My Hendrick Motorsports three-play of Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmie Johnson in the Aaron's 499 was a total bust after Kyle Busch came from one lap down to win at Talladega. I thought I was going to cash in with Gordon, but he couldn't get it done sitting in second place heading into the final lap. My NBA pick of Washington ATS was also a washout after the Wizards ran out of magic.

To make up for Sunday's losses I'm going to need a big payout on Monday. And to get it I'm going to play on seven MLB games on the sked. As long as I hit five of them I should make out fine. With Johan Santana, Dan Haren, and Javier Vazquez all starting the Mets, Diamondbacks, and White Sox are all easy picks.

In St. Louis on Monday Todd Wellemeyer's joyride is starting to end and the hard-hitting Reds should hand him his first loss of the season. As well, the Indians will start Triple A call-up Aaron Laffey on Monday; I usually don't like to bet on recent call-ups, but versus the Yankees and Mike Mussina the Indians should pull out a close win.

In the Monday night west coast games I'll take Oakland over the Angels and San Francisco over Colorado. Chad Gaudin gets the start for Oakland and he's coming off seven shutout innings against the Twins.

Gaudin keeps it going against the Angels. San Francisco starts Matt Cain, who's been a big disappointment so far, but after limiting San Diego to a single run in his last start he should finally log a win (if the Giants give him some run support).

So, the rundown of my Monday MLB picks: Mets, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Reds, Indians, Athletics, Giants.
