Cotto, Tarver highlight slate

The bell will ring on April 12th with three big fights on tap for boxing fans and bettors.

First up that night, WBA Welterweight champ Miguel Angel Cotto puts his title on the line versus Alfonso Gomez. Cotto, who enters the bout with a 31-0 professional record which includes 25 knockouts, is a huge favorite at Sportsbook.com where he comes in at -800.

Challenging Cotto for his title belt will be Alfonso Gomez, who some boxing fans might remember from the first season of “The Contender.” Gomez is 18-3-2 with eight knockouts in his career. Gomez is a +500 underdog to take Cotto’s title over at .

Also on the April 12th fight schedule is Antonio Tarver versus IBF Light Heavyweight champion Clinton Woods. Tarver, the former Light Heavyweight champ in three divisions, is also known for appearing in “Rocky Balboa” with Sylvester Stallone. Tarver is 26-4 with 19 knockouts in his career, and last stepped into the ring in December when he TKOed Danny Santiago in the fourth round.

Woods is a boxing veteran and sports a 41-3-1 record with 24 knockouts. He last defended his title in September when he defeated Julio Cesar Gonzalez by unanimous decision. The odds on this fight at are much closer, with Tarver listed at -125 and Woods checking in at -105.

The third big fight set to take place on April 12th is WBC Light Heavyweight champ Chad Dawson versus Glen Johnson. Dawson is a perfect 25-0 with 17 knockouts in his career. He last defended his title in September against Epifanio Mendoza, whom he TKOed in the fourth round.

Johnson is the former IBF Light Heavyweight champion and owns a 47-11-2 lifetime record with 32 knockouts. Johnson’s last fight was in January, when he scored a TKO win over Hugo Pineda in the eighth round.
