Boxing fans and bettors are waiting for the upcoming rematch between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but until that superfight comes together they’ll have to settle for De La Hoya versus Stephen Forbes.

De La Hoya will take on Forbes in a Welterweight bout at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on May 3, in what most are calling a tuneup fight for his rematch with Mayweather Jr. De La Hoya enters this fight with a record of 38-5, with 30 wins coming by knockout.

One of De La Hoya’s losses came in his last fight, when he lost to Mayweather Jr. by split decision back on May 5, 2007. The oddsmakers expect this bout against Forbes to be a walk in the park for De La Hoya, after they set him as a monumental -2600 favorite.

Forbes has owned a couple titles in his boxing career but he’s most remembered these days for taking part in The Contender, Season 2. Forbes owns a career record of 33-5, with nine wins by knockout.

His last fight was back on October 9 when he defeated Francisco Bojado by split decision. If Forbes were to somehow shock the boxing world and beat De La Hoya, he would pay plenty at where he is a +1300 underdog.

On the HBO pay-per-view undercard for De La Hoya/Forbes, there is a WBC Featherweight title bout between the champion Jorge Linares and the challenger Billy Dib.

Linares won the title by defeating Oscar Lairos and made his first successful title defense in December with an eighth-round knockout of Gamaliel Diaz. In his professional career Linares is 25-0 with 16 wins by knockout.

Dib, known as Billy “The Kid” Dib, is also undefeated entering this bout at 18-0 with nine wins by knockout. His last fight was a month ago on March 22 when he defeated Edgar Fabian Vargas by split decision.
