Deutsche Bank Championship odds

advertisement

The hunt for the FedExCup continues on the PGA Tour this week with the second stop of the playoff schedule, the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston.

Last week the FedExCup playoffs began at The Barclays, where Vijay Singh jumped out to the lead with his second Tour win of the season. Singh finished 72 holes tied with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Sutherland, but he topped both of them in a playoff for the win.

Singh moved into first place in the FedExCup standings, while Garcia got bumped up to second place, and Sutherland leapt into third place.

That could quickly change this weekend at the Deutsche Bank, where the top 120 players still in contention for the Cup will be cut down to 70. Singh has won the Deutsche Bank before, claiming the title in 2004, but he's not the favorite this weekend.

The favorite according to the oddsmakers at online sportsbook is the defending champion of this event, Phil Mickelson at +800. Last year Mickelson finished the tournament 16-under par, which was two strokes better than Tiger Woods, Arron Oberholser, and Brett Wetterich, who all tied for second.

Coming in right behind Mickelson on the odds is Garcia at +900, while Singh checks in next at +1200.

In the short history of the Deutsche Bank Championship other than Mickelson and Singh only three players have won the event: Tiger Woods won back in 2006, Olin Browne won a year earlier in 2005, and Adam Scott was the first-ever Deutsche Bank champ in 2003. Scott is a huge +3500 underdog at to repeat as champion this week, while Woods and Browne will not participating this year.

The Deutsche Bank Championship tees off a day later than most PGA Tour events, with the opening round being played on Friday instead of the usual Thursday. This also means the final round of the tournament will be played on Monday instead of Sunday.
