Tiger 9/4 favorite in U.S. Open

The PGA Tour becomes the Tiger Woods show once again this week, as the world's top-ranked golfer returns from a two-month layoff to go after another U.S. Open title.
Woods just missed adding a third U.S. Open title to his lengthy resume last season after tying for second place along with Jim Furyk at six-over par. The Open champion was Angel Cabrera, who just edged Woods and Furyk after carding a five-over for the tournament.
Making his return to action following arthroscopic knee surgery, Woods is the heavy favorite this week at 9/4 odds at while Cabrera is a huge underdog to repeat at 80/1.
A big reason why Woods is leading the odds despite his knee troubles is likely this year's Open venue. For the first time ever this year the U.S. Open will take place at Torrey Pines' South Course. Torrey is well-known on the tour as the locale for the Buick Invitational.
One small difference, however, is that the Invitational is played on both the North and South courses at Torrey Pines, while the Open will be held only on the South Course.
North or South, Woods has ruled them both at Torrey Pines. Woods won the Invitational in grand fashion earlier this season after shooting 19-under par for a whopping eight-stroke victory over Ryuji Imada. That was Woods' fourth straight Invitational title and sixth of his career.
Trailing Woods on the career win list at Torrey Pines is Phil Mickelson, who has ended up on the top of the Buick Invitational leaderboard three times. Mickelson won in 1993 and back-to-back in 2000 and 2001.
The man they call Lefty has three Major titles to his name, but he's never won the U.S. Open thanks to his 2006 debacle at Winged Foot. Mickelson is a 6/1 underdog at to change that this weekend.
