Lakers lead 2009 NBA Championship Futures

It's a good time to be a sports fan in Boston. The Celtics brought an NBA title back to Beantown on Tuesday night, giving Boston another trophy to go along with their recent World Series victory and Super Bowl appearance.
The Celtics closed out the series in grand style with a monstrous 131-92 whipping of the Lakers. Boston easily covered the 4.5-point spread in the win and finished the Finals with a perfect 6-0 record ATS.
Even though the Larry O'Brien Trophy was just engraved with the Celtics' 17th NBA title, the oddsmakers at are already thinking about next year. Future odds for next year's NBA Championship are already available at , but they may look a little different than you might expect.
Even though the Celtics completely outplayed the Lakers in this year's Finals, they are not the favorite to win it all again next season. The favorites, oddly enough, are the vanquished Lakers at 2/1.
If Los Angeles does make another run to the Finals next season, they should look a little different with Andrew Bynum at center which would allow Pau Gasol to shift to power forward. In turn Lamar Odom would move to small forward, if he's still around.
Would the added size and toughness of Bynum have made a difference against the Celtics? The oddsmakers at must think so if they're picking Los Angeles over Boston to take home next year's championship.
The Celtics aren't being completely slighted though. Boston falls in behind the Lakers on the futures odds list at 4/1. Boston's big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will all be back, along with Rajon Rondo, so the Celtics' core will be intact for another title run.
Rounding out the Top 5 on the futures list are the Spurs at 8/1, the Pistons at 10/1 and the Suns at 15/1. All three of those teams could see some changes of their own during the offseason, and Detroit already has a new head coach in Michael Curry.
If the Spurs, Suns and Pistons are starting to get old and are headed for a downturn like some experts are predicting, bettors may want to look into young rising squads like the Hornets at 15/1 or LeBron's Cavaliers, also at 15/1.
