Sweet 16 betting odds favor higher seeds

The Madness continues to sweep through the South and Midwest regions on Friday night as four more teams will advance to the Elite 8 and four more will have their tournament run stopped.
For college basketball bettors wary of upsets, Friday provides another instance where the higher seeds are favored on betting lines in all four cases.
South Region
Stanford (3) vs. Texas (2)
The Cardinal nearly had their tournament run ended in the second round before they clipped sixth seed Marquette 82-81 in overtime. The close score meant Stanford was unable to cover the 2.5-point spread.
Brook Lopez was the hero for the Cardinal after hitting the game-winning shot with 1.3 seconds remaining and leading Stanford with 30 points. The other Lopez, Robin Lopez, also had a strong game with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Texas also got more than they bargained for in their second-round 75-72 win over No. 7 seed Miami. The Longhorns also failed to cover the point spread after being favored by 6.5 points.
A.J. Abrams hit two key late free throws for Texas and scored a game-high 26 points in the win. Damion James was also a force in the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The Longhorns are a slim 3.5-point favorite in this game at .
Michigan State (5) vs. Memphis (1)
The Spartans pulled off a second-round upset by dispatching No. 4 seed Pittsburgh 65-54 as a 2.5-point underdog. Drew Neitzel found his shot early and went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc while scoring a team-high 21 points. Kalin Lucas added 19 points and Goran Suton chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers had a wild ride through the second round after barely surviving their encounter with Mississippi State. Memphis was a 9-point favorite, but only defeated the Bulldogs 77-74.
Derrick Rose was an all-around star in the win for Memphis with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Chris Douglas-Roberts also had 17 points, while Joey Dorsey put up a strong defensive front with 12 rebounds and six blocks, along with 13 points.
The Tigers may be a No. 1 seed but they’re only a 4.5-point favorite in this game at .
Midwest Region
Davidson (10) vs. Wisconsin (3)
The Wildcats rode the hot hand of Stephen Curry to get past No. 2 seed Georgetown 74-70 as a 5-point underdog. Curry poured in 25 of his 30 points in the second half to help Davidson come back from a 17-point deficit. Jason Richards also added 20 points in the win.
The Badgers buried Kansas State in 72-55 romp as a 4.5-point favorite in the second round. Trevon Hughes scored 25 points and Michael Flowers had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in the runaway win.
The Badgers are a 5-point favorite at to end Davidson’s tournament run.
Villanova (12) vs. Kansas (1)
The Villanova Wildcats ended Siena’s tournament dreams with an 84-72 win as a 5.5-point favorite last week. Scottie Reynolds delivered another solid performance with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Corey Stokes deposited 20 points.
The Jayhawks had no trouble sending UNLV home with a 75-56 win as a 13.5-point favorite. Mario Chalmers led Kansas with 17 points, while Russell Robinson dropped in 13 points.
