Final 4 set for NHL playoffs

advertisement

They're down to four in the NHL playoffs - still in the hunt for the Stanley Cup are Detroit and Dallas in the West, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in the East.

Watch for the updated Stanley cup future odds to be posted shortly and expect Detroit and Pittsburgh to top that list with close odds.

It took awhile, but the Stars sent the Sharks packing in five games to move into the conference final. Actually, if you want to be precise, the Stars needed six games, as Game 5 went into quadruple overtime before Brenden Morrow netted the winner to give Dallas a 2-1 win.

Marty Turco was sensational in the win, making 61 saves, while Antti Miettinen also scored for Dallas. Mike Ribeiro leads the Stars with 14 playoff points, on three goals and 10 assists, while Morrow leads Dallas in playoff goals with seven.

The Red Wings rolled over Colorado in four straight and haven't played since Thursday. The Wings destroyed Colorado 8-2 in the clincher and outscored the Avalanche 21-9 in a series marked by OVER plays.

Johan Franzen has been on fire for Detroit with nine goals in the series versus Colorado, and 11 goals total in the postseason, while Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk each have 13 playoff points.

The Wings and Stars met four times during the regular season, with Detroit winning the season series 3-1. Detroit was 2-0 versus Dallas at the Joe Louis Arena, outscoring the Stars 9-4 combined in those two wins.

The Eastern Conference final gets started later in the week with a "Battle of Pennsylvania" between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers advanced to the conference final by knocking off Montreal in five games. This was a huge upset and paid Flyer series bettors off handsomely. The series odds will be even longer this time, so if you think Philly can win, it's a great time to get great Cup odds.

In Game 5 on Saturday night the Flyers and Canadiens clashed in a shootout, which Philadelphia won 6-4. R.J. Umberger scored a pair of goals in the win, giving him nine in the postseason. That gives him one more than Daniel Briere, who leads the Flyers with 14 points (eight goals and six assists).

Flyers goalie Martin Biron may have allowed four goals in the game, but he was still solid for Philadelphia with 31 saves.

Pittsburgh earned their spot in the conference final by eliminating the Rangers in five games. Game 5 went into overtime on Sunday, with Marian Hossa scoring the game winner, his second of the contest. Evgeni Malkin netted his sixth playoff goal in the win, while Pens netminder Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves.

Malkin and Sidney Crosby head into the next round tied for the lead in playoff scoring with 14 points each; Malkin has six goals and eight assists, while Crosby has two goals and 12 assists.

The Flyers and Penguins met eight times during the regular season, with Philadelphia holding the edge in the series with five wins. Philly was undefeated at home against the Pens during the regular season, while Pittsburgh was 3-1 at the Igloo versus the Flyers.
