Hot Wings a win away from Stanley Cup final

advertisement

The Detroit Red Wings can advance to the Stanley Cup final on Wednesday night, if they can complete the sweep of the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference final.

Detroit took a commanding a 3-0 series lead on Monday night after defeating Dallas 5-2 as a -120 road favorite. Pavel Datysuk recorded his first career postseason hat trick and now has eight goals in the playoffs.

Henrik Zetterberg also scored a shorthanded goal and added two assists for Detroit, and the stylish Swede heads into Wednesday night's game leading the Red Wings in playoff scoring with 18 points. Goaltender Chris Osgood made 16 saves during a relatively easy night in nets for Detroit.

Scoring for Dallas in the Game 3 loss were Brad Richards and Nicklas Grossman. Brendan Morrow registered an assist but the playoff goal leader for Dallas had only one shot on goal, while Mike Ribeiro was also held to only one shot on goal the night after drawing the ire of Detroit for his two-hander on Osgood.

Osgood's counterpart, Dallas netminder Marty Turco, continued to struggle versus the Wings allowing five goals on 21 shots.

If Detroit does advance to the Cup final on Wednesday night, they'll be watching closely on Thursday night to see who their competition might be when Pittsburgh and Philadelphia square off in Game 4 of their series.
