This week we take a look at how the NFL MVP race is shaping up as the NFL passes the midway mark. Yes, there is little suspense surrounding who is the big favorite, but there are a few surprises lingering behind Mr. Brady, as money is coming in on other standouts.
We also turn our sights North, to Canada, where the CFL is kicking off their second biggest weekend of the season. The Eastern and Western Conference playoff games should be exciting battles, as the teams vie for a spot in the Grey Cup (the CFL's version of the Super Bowl).

Let's have a look at that MVP race.

Brett Favre
The Brett Favre of 2007 resembles more the Green Bay QB from the late nineties than the QB from last year. Favre currently has a QB rating of 96.2, passed for 2,757 yards and 16 TDs and his Packers are atop the NFC North with an 8-1 record.

The newly rejuvenated Favre, on top of being one of the league's best comeback stories, is making some noise in the race for the NFL MVP. Currently SPORTSBETTING.COM has Green Bay's No. 4 listed at +800 to win the award , as money has been steadily coming in on Favre the last few weeks.

Tony Romo
Many wondered aloud if Tony Romo would suffer from a letdown after a very good 2006 season. The Dallas QB mishandled the snap for a potential game winning field goal in a playoff game in Seattle and many thought that might weigh on his mind.

Romo not only forgot about the gaffe but he has gone on to show that he isn't a one-year wonder either. Currently, the Dallas pivot owns a 103.3 passer rating, has thrown for 23 TDs and passed for 2,555 yards and the Cowboys, like Favre's Packers, are 8-1.

America's team is currently listed at +600 to win the Super Bowl and Romo is pegged at +800 to become the 2007 league MVP , tied with Favre.

Peyton Manning
Although the Colts have dropped two in-a-row, Peyton Manning will still garner MVP votes, unless he really stinks it up the last half of the season, which isn't likely. With 2,386 passing yards and 16 passing TDs the middle Manning child is listed at 7-1 to take home his third MVP award .

Randy Moss and Tom Brady
What would have been an almost unbelievable thought a year ago, it is now a given that WR Randy Moss will earn votes for the MVP award (he's currently listed +1200 at SPORTSBETTING.COM ). Although the New England Patriots have only played nine games so far, Moss is on the verge of cracking 1,000 yards receiving and will more than likely achieve the feat in the Pats' game in Buffalo this Sunday (see below). New England is listed as a 16-point favorite in that one.

As good as Moss has been, Tom Brady remains the odds on favorite to pick up the MVP award at season's end. With a current QB rating that is Joe-Montana-like at 131.8 and with only 33 TD passes to only 4 INTs, we are seeing history in the making each week.

His Patriots are making the 1972 Miami Dolphins sweat bullets as they flirt with the undefeated record and even if they do lose they are the current favorite to win the Super Bowl at -275 , while Brady is the heavy chalk for the MVP award at -1000 .
