Get to the Point

By Jimmy Harris

No hockey, only one basketball game? What's a bettor to do for action on Wednesday night? Bet on baseball, of course.

I've scoped out a couple road teams worth a few bucks on the Wednesday night schedule. I can't guarantee they'll both be underdogs by the time the first pitch is thrown, but if they both come through, they should pay all right.

First on the list is Tampa Bay at Oakland, where I'll be taking the Rays. Andy Sonnanstine gets the call for T-Bay, while Dana Eveland will be on the mound for Oakland.

At 6-1 this season, Sonnanstine has been a nice surprise for the Rays and their half-dozen fans. Eveland looked pretty good to start the season, but teams are starting to figure him out already and the Rays should get to him just enough to rack up a road win.

There was no overnight line on this one, a sure sign that oddsmakers at and other online sportsbooks are taking their time to get it right.

Game two on my list is Cincinnati at the Dodgers. Super rookie Johnny Cueto starts for the Reds, while import Hiroki Kuroda opposes him for the Dodgers. Cueto hasn't looked very super lately and his ERA is soaring, having reached 5.75.

The long ball has been a problem for Cueto, but playing in pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium should help him put together another quality start. Hopefully Andruw Jones will play for the Dodgers, because he should be good for three or four strikeouts.

Cueto opened as a dime line underdog of +140 and he sat at +140 early Wednesday at . Check it out and good luck on these baseball value plays today.
