Get to the Point

By Jimmy Harris

It was another disappointing weekend on the betting front for old Jimmy. I've hit a real brick wall in my baseball bets lately, and overall in the last two weeks I'm not even clearing the .500 mark in my picks.

The weekend was a complete bust on the MLB scene as I went 3-for-7. That may be a respectable .428 at the plate, but it's a big money loser when it comes to betting. Saturday was a complete sham after I went 1-for-3 after the Mets and Rays both turned out to be duds.

I at least hit on the Giants, but even that didn't turn out like I thought it would, as Brett Myers actually turned in a good outing instead of getting shelled. That performance screwed up my fantasy squad as well, as I left Myers on the bench and missed out on his 10 strikeouts.

Sunday's baseball results came out 2/4, which means it was another money loser since I went with all favorites. The losers there were the UNDER in the Phillies/Giants game after the bullpens got knocked around, and taking Arizona proved to be the wrong decision as well after their bullpen sucked.

The UNDER play in that Arizona game was a smart pick, and Boston handed Scott Kazmir a loss in his debut like I expected, but it wasn't enough for any profits.

I figured I had to come up with a winning baseball pick for Monday to make up for my pitiful weekend. After scouring the Monday schedule and the odds I've narrowed it down to Texas at Seattle. I'll take the Rangers at +110 with Kevin Millwood on the mound.

Millwood has gotten the shaft from his teammates a few times this season, like on opening day when he went six innings against the Mariners and allowed two unearned runs thanks to some poor defense. Seattle goes with Jarrod Washburn on Monday and he's been roughed up in his last four starts and is 0-3 in those four games.

Seattle's been just as bad lately with five straight losses and a 2-8 record in their last 10 games. Look for Texas to make it six in a row. Good luck and here's to turning around our sports betting luck with some more solid handicapping this week.

And let's hope Big Brown has a great rest so he can create lots of Triple Crown buzz in two weeks time, after he easily won the Kentucky Derby Saturday. The race was marred at the end by the tragic injury and euthanasia of place-horse Eight Belles. She collapsed after finishing second and was euthanized at the track.
