The biggest cash prize of the season will be on the line this week when the PGA Tour tees it up at TPC at Sawgrass in The Players Championship. And that means a great assortment of wagering options for golf bettors heading into Thursday.
The rest of the PGA Tour gets a break from Tiger Woods again this week, as he continues to rehab from knee surgery. With Tiger still sidelined, defending Players champion Phil Mickelson is the betting favorite at at +1000 odds.
Mickelson shot 11-under par to win last year at Sawgrass, giving him a two-shot victory over second-place finisher Sergio Garcia.
Following close behind Mickelson on the odds list is Adam Scott at +1100 on the PGA betting odds. Scott recorded his first win of the season two weeks ago in the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, and followed that up by tying for eighth place in last week's Wachovia Championship.
Scott has also shown he can win at Sawgrass, as he won The Players Championship back in 2004.
Other former winners of The Players Championship listed among this week's field include 2006 winner Stephen Ames, 2005 winner Fred Funk, 1998 winner Justin Leonard and two-time winner Davis Love III, who last hoisted the trophy at Sawgrass in 2003.
At last week's Wachovia Championship, Anthony Kim won for the first time this season with a dominating performance. Kim shot 16-under par, which was five strokes better than second-place Ben Curtis.
If Kim is on his game again this weekend, he's could be a solid dark horse pick for bettors.
