Get to the Point
By Jimmy Harris
Last Saturday I went 2-for-3 in my MLB three-pack. That means I'm still looking for my first perfect Saturday on the season. After quickly scanning Saturday's baseball slate I think I've finally got it nailed down with a few upsets.
First on my list is Toronto at Cleveland, where Dustin McGowan faces Aaron Laffey. Neither the Jays nor the Indians are hitting at all right now, so if either pitcher can allow three runs or less that could be enough to secure a victory.
Between McGowan and Laffey I'll take McGowan to throw at least seven solid innings. In his last start McGowan pitched 7 1-3 shutout innings versus the White Sox. Prior to that he limited Boston to one run over 7 1-3. Look for much of the same Saturday in a close Jays win. It's a +120 moneyline underdog call over at .
My second game is the Angels at Tampa Bay. Joe Saunders and his 6-0 record go for Los Angeles, while southpaw Scott Kazmir gets the call for the Rays. I'll take Kazmir in this one. Saunders was roughed up for four runs on 12 hits over five innings in his last start and should be headed for his first loss.
Kazmir was in tough against Boston in his season debut last week, but he should rebound nicely with a solid outing against the Angels if his command improves - which it will. He is a -130 favorite to bet the Angels at online sportsbook .
My third pick is Arizona to defeat the Cubs at home on Saturday. The Diamondbacks give Max Scherzer another start, and even though he was a bust for me in his last outing his stuff is too good to pitch two duds in a row.
I have a hard time going against Cubs starter Ryan Dempster, who is pitching very well right now, but if Scherzer can avoid the early pitfalls that plagued him in his first start he should outpitch Dempster. And he opened as +125 dime line underdog at .
