German soccer betting preview for May 17
Thursday, May 15 2008

With Bayern Munich having lifted the title, the focus of Bundesliga betting heading into the final matchday of the season, is on the battle to avoid the final remaining relegation spot.

MSV Duisburg and Hansa Rostock have returned to Bundesliga 2 after just one season in the top flight, and either FC Nurnberg or Arminia Bielefeld will join them. Get up to 60% better Bundesliga betting odds at for their crucial games this weekend.

FC Nurnberg Must Win or Go Down
Going into the final game of the Bundesliga season, the situation for FC Nurnberg couldn't be clearer. Martin Bader's side currently sit in 16th place - the final relegation spot - two points behind Arminia Bielefeld, but with a much better goal difference. To avoid demotion, FCN must therefore win at home to Schalke 04, and hope that Bielefeld do not take three points away to Stuttgart.

After a four game unbeaten run, Nurnberg slumped to a disappointing defeat at Hertha Berlin last weekend, but it is not over just yet for Der Club. They are helped by the fact their opponents, Schalke 04, have nothing left to play for, having guaranteed themselves Champions League football next season.
Nurnberg are also unbeaten at the Frankenstadion this year, their last home league defeat being ten games back on November 3rd. Strikers, Angelos Charisteas, and veteran, Jan Koller, will be carrying the threat as they look for the crucial points against Schalke.
price Nurnberg pk -112* (bet $112 to win $100) with Schalke pk +104* (bet $100 to win $104) - a market priced to less than 102%.

Lady Luck Not Shining on Arminia

Arminia Bielefeld may rightly feel that the gods are against them. Last weekend Die Blauen were minutes from securing Bundesliga football for next season, but having led Borussia Dortmund twice, a cruel own goal from goalkeeper, Rowen Fernandez, snatched safety out of their hands.
An Alexander Frei free-kick rebounded off the post, hit Fernandez in the face, then went into the back of the net; a cruel blow that Bielefeld may struggle to recover from.

Michael Frontzeck's side know that Nurnberg are breathing down their necks, so must go for maximum points visiting Stuttgart on Saturday. VFB still entertain hopes of jumping two places from seventh place into one of the UEFA Cup spots.
They will need results to go their way, but certainly have enough motivation to take this game very seriously, which is bad news for Arminia. Stuttgart are however, without several key players, Fernando Meira is suspended, while Serdar Tasci, Pavel Pardo and striker, Ciprian Marica, will all miss the game through injury.
Despite those absentees price Stuttgart favorites -0.5 & -1 -128* (bet $128 to win $100) with Arminia Bielefeld +0.5 & +1 +118* (bet $100 to win $118)
