Zach Johnson was unable to successfully defend his Masters title earlier this year, but he'll hope for a better result when he tries to defend his AT&T Classic championship at TPC at Sugarloaf this week.
Johnson claimed his second career AT&T Classic win last year after shooting 15-under par over 72 holes. That was good enough to get him into a playoff with Ryuji Imada, which he won on the first hole.
Even though Johnson has tamed Sugarloaf twice, he's still an underdog heading into this year's tournament at 15/1 at . Imada is also a dog on the PGA odds list at 30/1.
Topping the odds list at is Stewart Cink at 10/1. Cink has never won at Sugarloaf before, but he does hold the highest rank in the World Golf Rankings among the tourney field at No. 15.
Cink is still looking for his first win of the season, although he has come close on numerous occasions with two second-place finishes and three other Top 10 finishes.
Following Cink on the odds is another former AT&T Classic champ, Retief Goosen at 12/1. Goosen won at Sugarloaf back in 2002, but so far this year he hasn't been challenging for the top of the leaderboard. In eight stops on the PGA Tour so far this season Goosen has cracked the Top 10 only once, when he came second at the WGC-CA Championship.
Other former AT&T Classic winners in this week's field include 2003 champion Ben Crane and two-time winner Scott McCarron. Crane is a 25/1 underdog at , while McCarron, despite winning this event in 1997 and 2001, did not register individual odds and was lumped in with the field at 9/4.
The latest winner on the PGA Tour, Sergio Garcia, won't be teeing off at Sugarloaf this week. Garcia defeated Paul Goydos in a playoff in last week's Players Championship, but the Spaniard isn't among the field in the AT&T Classic.
However, Goydos, who had to settle for second place last week, is confirmed for this week. Goydos came as close as you can to winning last week and he's a huge dark horse to get over the hump at Sugarloaf this week at 80/1 at .
Golf betting can be different than other traditional sports in that picking a winner is a huge longshot. However, betting golfer matchups (will Cink score lower than Garcia?) are popular moneymakers for those who know golf. lick here to learn more about golf news and how to successful bet on golf [1].
