Cubs Pitcher Ted Lilly

There is another weekend of interleague play on tap around Major League Baseball starting on Friday.

After a round of mostly mediocre matchups last weekend, the schedule-makers finally got it right with three matchups between playoff contenders that could end up being a World Series preview if the cards fall the right way.

First up is clash between the leaders from both the AL and NL Central divisions, where both teams also happen to be from Chicago - the White Sox and the Cubs. In six interleague games last year, the Cubs owned the Sox with a 5-1 record. The Cubbies will try to maintain that dominance on Friday when they send Ted Lilly (7-5, 4.76) up against White Sox starter John Danks (4-4, 2.90).

The Cubs opened as -130 favorites at online sportsbook , while the total had not yet been posted overnight.

Meanwhile the Red Sox also have an interesting matchup this weekend, with a 2004 World Series rematch against the St. Louis Cardinals. Boston heads into the weekend leading the AL East, while the Cardinals are holding the lead in the NL Wild Card while also chasing the Cubs in the Central.

In Friday's game, Kyle Lohse (8-2, 3.77) gets the start for St. Louis and Tim Wakefield (4-4, 4.19) spins his knuckleball for Boston, who opened as -175 moneyline chalk.

The final series between playoff contenders is another clash between division leaders when NL East-leading Philadelphia takes on AL West-leading Los Angeles. The Phillies have lost four of their last five games but still hold a two-game lead over Florida in the East.

The Angels are still holding off the A's in the West with a three-game lead. In the series opener on Friday, Ervin Santana (8-3, 3.40) gets the call for the Angels and Adam Eaton starts for Philadelphia.

Philly was -125 moneyline favorites to open at .
