Baseball bettors will get dealt another handful of aces this weekend. Brandon Webb, Johan Santana, Justin Verlander, and Tim Lincecum all take to the mound on Saturday, while on Sunday the ball goes to Ben Sheets, Jake Peavy, and John Lackey.
Webb (see his game log [1] in the betting section here and click Pitcher Logs) has hit a rough patch since starting the season 9-0. He currently sits at 11-4 after taking another loss in his last outing (giving up four earned runs in seven innings versus the Twins).
Opposing Webb on Saturday will be Marlins young gun Andrew Miller, who was touched up for four runs in only four innings against Oakland last time out. Miller is a +120 home underdog on the baseball moneyline at online sportsbook and might be good value in this spot.
Santana is engaged in an all lefty matchup against Yankees veteran Andy Pettitte on Saturday. Santana dropped to 7-6 on the season after surrendering five runs in seven innings in a loss to Seattle in his last start.
On a positive note Santana is 4-0 with a 2.98 ERA versus the Yankees in his career. Pettitte has found his groove lately and is 5-0 in his last seven starts. That includes pitching six shutout innings against Cincinnati in his last outing. Santana is excellent value here at , as he opened at just -125 home moneyline chalk.
Verlander goes up against Colorado would-be ace Jeff Francis on Saturday. Last season Verlander and Francis were a combined 35-15. So far this year they're 7-16. Verlander may be turning it around after holding San Diego to two runs in 5 1-3 innings with 10 strikeouts in his last start.
Francis continues to get pounded after giving up seven runs in 4 1-3 innings against Kansas City last time out. If you think he can bounce back, he's a juicy +160 underdog on the moneyline in Detroit.
Lincecum has started to unravel a little in his last two starts. In a lucky no-decision against Kansas City he was roughed up for five runs in five innings. That followed another no-decision versus Detroit in which he allowed four runs in seven innings.
Justin Duchscherer starts for Oakland, and he's been phenomenal lately. In his last six starts Duchscherer is 5-1 with a 1.46 ERA. If you like the aggressive Lincecum, it's nice +120 moneyline dog value on the young Giant hurler.
Sheets heads into his Sunday start against Minnesota with a 5-0 record in his last seven starts. In his last outing Sheets pitched a complete-game four hitter against the Braves in which he allowed only one run. The Twins start Kevin Slowey, who is coming off a solid outing against San Diego in which he tossed six shutout innings.
Peavy picked up a no-decision in his last start after allowing only one run in six innings against the Twins. Seattle sends R.A. Dickey to the mound and he could hold his own against Peavy after pitching seven shutout innings versus the Mets in his last start.
Lackey won his fourth straight start last time out after allowing only one run in eight strong innings versus Washington. The Dodgers will hope for a better performance out of Derek Lowe in this one.
Lowe was roughed up for five runs in 7 1-3 innings in his last start versus the White Sox, and he was ripped for seven runs in five innings versus the Angels earlier this season.
