WNBA wide open at midseason
At the midseason point in the WNBA, things are as unsettled as an airplane flying through turbulence. Last season’s runner-up Sacramento is 12-7 and sit just behind San Antonio in the Western Conference, while Phoenix and Seattle are scratching at the door with identical 11-9 records. Red-hot Indiana has won four straight, to sit a game above defending champion Detroit in the chase for the Eastern Conference crown.
Eastern Conference
Tamika Catchings is on fire for Indiana, scoring an average of 16.9 points a game and helping her team catapult ahead of Detroit into first place just prior to the all-star break in Washington. Indiana is 10-7-1 ATS with a 6-3 ATS record at home and a 2-0 ATS record as underdogs. The best bet in the Eastern Conference might be the lowly Connecticut Sun at 2-8 ATS as favorites and 8-1 as underdogs, while last-place Washington is 7-3-1 ATS as underdogs. If your preference happens to be wagering on the total, then take note of the Shock’s 11-7 over/under record to date.
Western Conference
Becky Hammon is the fourth-leading scorer midway through the season, averaging just under 20 points per game for Western Conference-leading San Antonio. The Silver Stars are riding high at 12-6 ATS, while going 7-3 ATS on the road and 8-3 ATS as underdogs. With those kinds of numbers, many different wagering options are available for bettors. Meanwhile Seattle is in contention with MVP candidate Lauren Jackson leading the way, and is a solid 7-3 ATS at home, 10-5 ATS as favorites, and a miserable 1-4 ATS as the underdog.
