Underdog Kansas wins college basketball title

Get to the Point:

by Jimmy Harris

It’s a good day to be a Kansas alum, while Memphis grads are thinking about what might have been once again.

My picks for the national title game may have been way off (I had North Carolina facing UCLA), but at least I made up for it by dropping a couple of bucks on the underdog Jayhawks both against the spread and on the moneyline Tuesday night.

When the Jayhawks fell behind by nine points with two minutes to go, I figured I was going to come out on the losing end of another bet and finish off March Madness the same way I started it – as a loser.

My new favorite player this week is Mario Chalmers and I owe him a beer for helping me finish out the tourney with a much-needed winning bet.

The Jayhawks turned out to be a pretty good bet during their national championship run with a combined 4-1 ATS mark in the tourney. Too bad I bet against them ATS in two of those covers. Well, there’s always next year to make up for those losses.

Right, Memphis?

Although there is nothing posted as yet, expect college basketball future odds to be posted shortly on next year’s national champion. Both Kansas and Memphis are expected to lose players to the NBA draft, so don’t expect them automatically to top any of those lists.
