Cink favored in Verizon Heritage odds
Wednesday, Apr 16 2008

A week after battling for the green jacket in Augusta, some of the top golfers in the world are taking this week off while the rest head to Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina for the Verizon Heritage.

Masters champion Trevor Immelman won’t be parading around in his green jacket at Harbour Town because he won’t be among the Verizon Heritage field.

However, there are a number of big names scheduled to tee it up in South Carolina, including Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose and Brandt Snedeker and that means a great assortment of golf betting and golfer head to head wagers to be found online.

The defending champion of this tournament is Boo Weekley and he’ll be back to try and repeat starting Thursday. Weekley fired a 14-under par in last year’s tournament to finish one stroke ahead of Els at 13-under par.

Other former Heritage winners that will be returning to Harbour Town this week include 2006 winner Arron Baddeley, 2005 winner Peter Lonard, Stewart Cink, who won this event in 2004 and 2000, and 2002 champion Justin Leonard.

One real dark horse for bettors to consider at the Heritage is Davis Love. Love has won this event five different times, in 2003, 1998, 1992, 1991 and 1987. It hasn’t been a great year for Love, who’s still looking for his first Top 25 finish, but the familiar surroundings of Harbour Town could propel him back up the leaderboard.

The oddsmakers at have set some pretty high odds which could be very profitable if a former winner of the Heritage gets back on top of the leaderboard.

Two-time winner Cink is a +1500 favorite at , while defending champion Weekley is a huge underdog to repeat at +3200. Other former winners with big odds at include Baddeley at +2500, Lonard at +3000, and Leonard, also at +3000.
