Kyle Busch staged a huge comeback from a lap down last weekend to win the Aaron's 499 at Talladega. Heading into Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night, Busch could move into the lead in the driver standings if he can win again in the Crown Royal Presents the Dan Lowry 400.
The win at Talladega was the second of the season for Busch, and his fifth Top 5 finish of the year. Even with all that going for him, Busch isn't the betting favorite at Richmond. That distinction goes to Jimmie Johnson, who the oddsmakers have placed atop the NASCAR odds list at 5/1.
Johnson dominated at Richmond last season with wins in both races held on the track. Johnson has only one win so far this season, but considering his prior success at Richmond another W this weekend wouldn't be a surprise.
You would think Busch would be right after Johnson on the odds list, but he's not. Following Johnson at is Carl Edwards at 6/1. Edwards leads the Sprint Cup Series with three wins this season, but he had a horrible day at Talladega last week when he crashed early and had to settle for 40th place.
Edwards hasn't exactly driven well at Richmond in his career, with no Top 5 finishes and only two Top 10 finishes in seven career starts.
After Edwards, Busch finally checks in at 7/1. Busch may not have won at Richmond before, but he's come extremely close on numerous occasions with a pair of second-place finishes and three other Top 5 finishes in six races.
If you're looking for drivers with multiple wins at Richmond in the past your best bets are Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart. Both NASCAR veterans have three careers wins at Richmond.
Stewart, an 8/1 underdog at , won at Richmond in 2002, 2001, and 1999. Junior is a 10/1 underdog, and he recorded his wins at Richmond in 2006, 2004, and 2000.
